Advice from Authors – Amy Tan

Here is the first of my “kindlegraphs” I’d like to share. This is from an author I’ve admired since reading “Rules of the Game” back in elementary school. As the daughter of an Asian-immigrant mother, I could relate to Waverly Jong in a way I’d never been able to with any other characters I’d read about previously. It was one of my first literary revelations: There are stories for people like me.

Rules for Virgins” is  Amy Tan’s newest story. It’s the tale of an older courtesan–Magic Gourd–laying out the rules to her new protegé, Violet. On the surface it seems like a simple story of Magic Gourd laying out the framework that will lead to a successful life for Violet and herself. But it evolves into a bittersweet tale of Magic Gourd’s past and the inevitability of Violet’s  future.

Note: Amy Tan actually signed her name instead of using the script font that simulates a signature.

Advice from Authors – Kindlegraph

One of the things I miss most after switching to e-books are author autographs and inscriptions. Right now there are some sites out there that allow readers to request autographs and one such site is Kindlegraph.

With a Twitter username you can join up and start searching through their catalog of participating authors, many of which are new up-and-comers or self-published.

Kindlegraph states that it:

“lets authors send personalized inscriptions and signatures (“kindlegraphs”) directly to the electronic reading devices of their fans.”

While that’s all nice and optimistic, I wondered how many of these “kindlegraphs” were actually personalized. Well, I wanted to know and thought I’d share it with all of you.  So I requested quite a few autographs and asked every author the same question I’d ask if I were at an actual book signing: What advice do you have for aspiring authors?

Sexy Hump Day 25 Beards

As I get older I find that I am more attracted to men with facial hair.  Perhaps it’s some innate primitive correlation our mind makes between facial hair and male virility. I don’t know. I just know that sometimes it’s very, very nice. Don’t you agree?

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Easter filled with chocolate bunnies and colorful eggs. I myself will be dining on the Easter Bread (as see above) that my roommate has made, and yes those are hard-boiled Easter eggs baked into it.  Anyway, have fun everyone!

Ok, just one photo.
